Custom is 30-50× more expensive per video. The reason it still wins for ads is what's in the video — script tied to your brand, persona variety, hook tested per platform, music + caption locked to your style.
What we've seen for MENA fintech specifically
From three Series engagements with MENA fintech clients (one challenger bank, two payment apps), May 2025 – April 2026, on TikTok and IG Reels:
- CTR (paid social). Custom UGC: 2.1–3.2%. Synthesia/Heygen-style talking heads: ~0.9%. Across ~280 ad sets total.
- CPM. Roughly the same.
- CPI (cost per install). Custom UGC: 30-45% lower than the talking-head equivalent.
- Creative fatigue. Custom hits fatigue ~3× later because we ship 8/month with persona + script variety.
Caveats: small N, MENA-specific, fintech-specific. Don't extrapolate to other verticals or markets without testing.
When custom isn't worth it
If you need 20 onboarding tooltips for your iOS app, Synthesia or Heygen is the right call. If you're shooting one explainer for a landing page, same. Custom UGC is for ad creative at volume — TikTok, Reels, Shorts — where the marginal cost per video is dominated by media spend not production cost.
